My Artistic Journey
Life is a personal and unique journey. So is
art. The things that we deem as mistakes are often the beauty of the piece or of the quilt that becomes the full picture of
our lives. Things happen by chance and by accident. We attempt to plan and force our lives into safe journeys, but no-one
– not even the wealthy and the privileged – can predict what lies ahead and around the bend. The journey is a
mystery.
We live in a world where we are told how to look, what to wear and how to think. We are surrounded by
"clicks" who group together in their comfort with each other - that they may all think and do and dress the same
in order to "fit-in". Those who are not part of a group are ostracized - but taking a closer look are really envied
for their strength and conviction to stand alone and secure within their own convictions.
Art is about those who
dare to be unique, and different, not to follow the hurd, the mob, not to be part of the click.
Embrace who you
are and your freedom. Only you can free yourself from the box that society wants to put you in. True freedom comes when ones
own choices and dictates emanate from within - without the commercial images that are droned into our heads … is this
what it is supposed to look like? Am I ok? Am I going to fit in? He who honors his own inner convictions and dares to be unique
and his true self is on the path to true freedom.
Art is a journey - just like life. And so I am on my journey.
I am experimenting and embracing my mistakes and embracing the creation that comes from this.
And one last thought.
Do not measure yourself or your worth by your possessions and how much you have accumulated. It can all be gone with one quick
light of a match or the fickleness of fate. But rather, measure your worth by your character, by your integrity, and by your
fortitude and spirit to go on - often times whilst faced with adversity and despair. Be kind to yourself and to your talents,
whatever they may be. Nurture them, for these are your gifts.
Honor yourself. What comes out on the canvas, what
first may appear to be a mistake - usually ends up being what makes the painting - or the rich and colorful canvas of your
life.
